Hellas Sports Construction

Looking to meet the needs of their expanding business and staff, Hellas sought to build a new 2-story headquarters building. Hellas had previously been occupying tenant space in an existing facility, occupying more areas as the company grew and lease space became available. Having had the experience of expanding within an existing and discontinuous tenant space, Hellas sought to utilize their space more efficiently and create better department adjacencies in their new headquarters. Haddon+Cowan worked closely with Hellas management to develop a program and space diagram that would meet the needs of the growing company while optimizing departmental connections and respecting the need for privacy separation and sound attenuation.

During the schematic design process, Hellas found that they would outgrow the new 2-story facility within a shorter time period than they had previously anticipated. Taking this and the overall project budget into consideration, Haddon+Cowan worked with Hellas to pivot the design towards a 3-story 35,000sq ft facility formed with concrete tilt-wall construction that would meet future expansion needs. Using a combination of form-liners and applied facade materials, the project team delivered a building that was functional, aesthetically pleasing, and cohesive and sound attenuation.

The final design focused on defining the new building as uniquely Hellas – providing outdoor spaces to exhibit their synthetic turf product, showcasing their expansive collection of sports memorabilia throughout their lobby and public spaces, and creating desirable work and lounge spaces for their employees to gather. The main entrance opens into a welcoming, 2-story lobby space before splitting off into an employee gym, departmental work areas, a flexible staff training space, and a large employee breakroom that opens onto an exterior patio for large company events.
