The new Valor Public Schools campus is located in Kyle, Texas and will serve student levels Kindergarten through 12th grade in two phases. Phase I will include classrooms for lower school students from Kindergarten through 5th grade, as well as a central multi-purpose space and administrative offices for the campus. Phase II will provide an additional lower school classroom wing, a new upper school grades 6-12 classroom wing, a larger high-school level gymnasium, additional outdoor classroom areas and a black-box theater.
The campus design works with the sloping site by utilizing several classroom wings aligned with the existing grades and stepping down towards a substantial wet-pond that serves both as detention and an outdoor educational amenity for the school. The two-story campus structure features sloped roof elements that provide natural light into the hallway interiors through multiple clerestory windows. Each classroom and specialty program space, such as Library, Art and Science programs, were carefully programmed and placed into the building plans with regards to natural light, student circulation and access to outdoor spaces. Exterior circulation pathways connecting classrooms and the common spaces have been carefully included to allow and encourage students to access the outdoors during the day.
